5 ways to know you cracked Motherhood!

As many mother’s know having kids is never easy. It might seem like this amazing idea while your pregnant and you will dream and this beautiful baby that you swear will never know what a McDonald’s tastes like, they will never throw tantrums and every day will be amazing because will have managed to always make yours presentable and have your make up done before leaving the house in a morning.

Yes I was one of those mothers too and my motherhood dreams came tumbling down around me within a matter of days of my first son T being born. I left the hospital hobbling like a lady needing a zimo frame after my emergency c section. Every time I moved too quickly or took too big a step my stomach would hurt and it would feel like my inside might fall out. It’s safe to say I didn’t look presentable and it didn’t help that the only clothes I could fit in and felt comfortable were my old unflattering maternity clothes due to swelling after surgery. Basically I was a mess!

By the time I became a mum a second time round all my previous preconceptions of motherhood were out of the windows and I was a single mother. That was until I met my hubby and we started a family together and got married.

So now 4 kids down the line I believe all of these bits of my life have made me realise how much it takes to be a great mum and that sometimes you just need a pat on the back for managing to make it through the day in one piece.

so here my list of 5 ways to know you cracked motherhood:

  1. When your able to some how go to the loo, while holding a clingy teething baby that will start screaming if you so much as hint at putting her down and are able to hug a stroppy toddler, who is sulky because of a reason only they know and understand.  ←  This is a win, because hey at least you were able to go to the loo.
  2. You manage to open and enjoy a bar of chocolate with out your little angels seeing, hearing or even smelling the hidden treat.  ←  As parents we all know how good are little ones are at zoning in on chocolate, so if you managed to eat 1 bar without getting caught, well done.
  3. When you able to make it out of the door in a morning with a smudge of mascara on, your hair brushed and your have matching shoes.  ←  Win!
  4. When your able to feed your baby, while talking on the phone to organise a play date for your eldest and help your toddler put their shoes on with your free hand.  ←  This is unleashing the awesome mummy powers that turn you into SuperMum!
  5. When one of your offspring grabs you and hugs you close for no reason other then to show you how much they love and missed you.  ← This is one of the best and most amazing moments in motherhood. It’s that moment when you realise you are this little persons everything and they love you just as much as you love them.

There are millions of other motherhood wins that we win every day. They don’t even need to be the big things to be a mummy win it can be the simple things like getting to drink a brew while its hot or getting to actually have a relaxing soak in the bath. A mummy win can be anything that makes you feel Proud and Happy to be a mum!mother win

What are your mummy wins that let you know you cracked motherhood?

Play at Brewers Fayre at the Old Brickworks

I can not begin to explain how excited I was when I received and email offering me and my family a VIP invite to the Play at Brewers Fayre event at The Old Brickworks pub and restaurant in Drighlington, for the launch of their new Beano themed indoor play area.

The family at The Old Brickworks, Brewers Fayre.

The family at The Old Brickworks, Brewers Fayre.

What made it even better was the fact that it was the day before mine and the Hubby’s wedding anniversary. so it meant that we could all go out for a family meal while the kids had loads of fun in the new play area.
When we arrived Dennis was stood outside waiting to meet people and take photo. The kids were thrilled and even Baby was intrigued to see who this person knew person was, instead of crying like her brothers and sister did as babies.

The kids were blown away by the new play area and couldn’t wait to play and were itching to go explore all the new equipment. We had never been to the Brewers Fayre before so the whole experience was new to us. It was one I was excited to be taking part in.

The new area had all been designed with children in mind. There is a Toddler zone which is prefect for the little menace’s to have fun, a Treetop play house for the older one’s (height restrictions apply) and they even have a party room that has been named ‘The Den’. Which means that you can actually book the space out for your child’s birthday party. The play area is open every day from 9.30am – 8pm and its only cost £3 for 90 minutes of play. Plus you get to meet Dennis and Gnasher in person.

As you can see the kids loved it. The day was made extra special because there was an amazing lady that who was doing some beautiful face painting. Of course P and E were straight over to get their faces done. P wanted a dinosaur, where as E went for Frozen.

Once the kids had their fun, we decided that it was time to eat and went in the main restaurant to get our meal. I had order a chicken and bacon salad, whereas the hubby had chosen the Brewers Fayre burger. We both really enjoyed our meals and were extremely pleased. The kids ordered off the children’s menu, with P and E having The Big Bad Dog, while T and Baby had pasta meal such as Macaroni cheese and Spaghetti Beano-ese.
I only really managed to get a few picture of the food because everyone wolfed it down it was that tasty.

The Hubby mentioned that he really loved the little extra added touch they added to the meal, such as the wrapper for the burger or how the hot dogs came in a little basket.
I was really impressed with the prices that you could get the meals. You could order off the children’s menu for £3.99 each and there is a Brewers Fayre Day Time Value offer where you can choose 2 adult main meals from a choice of 12 for just £10. Plus you can order 2 desserts for £2.(This is on weekdays only)

Brewers Fayre doesn’t just have an indoor play area though they also have an outdoor play area. For those lovely summer days when you want to let your kids run free and play while you enjoy a cheeky pint or glass of wine.

It is safe to say that we had a really great time (I think the amount of photos I took shows that) and the Hubby was already arranging our next visit before we had even left. He has loads of ideas about use having the kids parties there too. I guess we will have to see what happens, but I know I would be more than happy go to Brewers Fayre for lunch again.

I would really recommend!

10 reasons I love being a Mum!

Being a mum is one of the most time-consuming, never-ending and amazing jobs in the world. It is an honour, a privilege and a gift to be given these tiny people to look after. Sometime we are even the ones lucky enough to create these adorable wonders and sometime they not made up of our DNA but they have still the centre of our universe and unbelievable love we feel for our child is indescribable.

Even if some days they make us want to pull our hair out or we bribe them with biscuits and their favourite TV because we want 5 minutes peace, so we can go to the loo without a trail of children following and watching as we pee or even better we get to drink a hot cup of coffee before we accidentally close our eyes and wake up to realise we have drifted off and the kids decided to redecorate the living room walls or better our faces. (Or does this just happen to me?)

Now before this becomes a list of all the downfall to being a mum, I will get to my point. That even though our kids can annoy us to the point of distraction, they are still the most precious treasures we will ever be given and because of this here is my list of the reasons I love being a mum.

  1. Watching their faces light up with joy!Nothing is better than seeing my children smile. For me knowing that they are happy and seeing it on their face lets me know that even though I’m not prefect I must be doing something right.
  2. When I watch them exploring, learning and trying new thing. While doing this my children tend to make more mess then I thought possible for people so small. But as long as they are having fun I don’t really care about the mess (sometimes).
  3. Their unexpected kisses. This happens to me regularly. I will be sat playing or stood making tea and out of no where a little person will run up and plant one on me. It is the best feeling in the world to know you are that loved that they had to stop what ever they were doing just to show you they care.
  4. Their little hands.I don’t know about you but I love my children’s hands. I love holding them, tickling them and kissing them. I could stare in wonder at those tiny digits all day. I love how small they are and how perfectly they fit around my finger or in my hand.
  5. Reading them a bedtime stories.I love reading to my kids and I use to read to T and P every night without fail. But as I had more children and the kids got older, the reading started to dwindle (Mainly due to my exhaustion). It’s was something that would plague me with guilt because I knew my girls would be missing out. So at start of this year I made a vow that I would try my best to read a story or sing a lullaby to all my kids before bed on a night. (It has been broken a few times but I make up for it the next night)
  6. Watching them sleep. They look so peaceful, sweet and cute. I just get lost in their faces and before I know it, a moment has turned into and hour and I realise their asleep.
  7. I love watching them play and getting involved!Who’s says just because you have kids you can’t spend your time pulling funny face and being silly together. That just because you’re a mum now you can’t act like a loon in the street or pretend the ground shoots laser if you stand on the cracks. One of my favourite things about motherhood is watching my kids play and use their imaginations. I love taking part and playing along as they describe the adventure they are taking me on. Who says just because you get older you have to grow up!
  8. Cuddles!I don’t even think I need to give a reason for why I love this one. It’s enough said.
  9. When they want to learn from you. When your try to cook or bake or clean and you have this little person who is interested and wants to watch and help you do it. When you know in that omens that you are teaching the a life skill by baking buns or filling up the washing machine or cleaning up for themselves. It fills you with hope that they will know how to look after themselves when they inevitably grow up and leave home.
  10. The pride you feel when you realise that this amazing family is yours! And you wouldn’t trade them for the world!

Why do you love being a mum?

Oh and by the way

Happy Mother’s Day

#Project365 – Week 10

This week has been a fun and busy week. The best thing about it is that I have been snapping loads of photo the worst thing is hard it is picking my favourite out of the many pictures, but I have given it ago.

So here is my week 10 in pictures.

Day 59

This was a #WIDN tagged photo that I snapped of Baby waving out the window to her invisible adoring fans. She has really perfected here waves and even has a few different styles. She has her Happy wave, her Bye Bye wave, her I’m Shy wave and she is now working on her royal wave. It is completely heart melting to watch how adorable she looks.

Day 60

On Monday I got into spring cleaning mode. I decided that while baby napped and E was happy watching TV, I would wash the windows and wipe all the muck finger prints off my walls. E thought that cleaning was more fun then her TV and wanted to give me a hand. So together we did the spring cleaning of the house.

Day 61

Asleeping baby who was completely tuckard out after a busy morning playing at the Down’s syndrome early intervention group that we attend every 2 weeks.

Day 62

I love the sisterly love between these too makes me burst with pride. That is until 2 minutes later when Baby is eating E’s face and pulling her hair, while E screams and pushes her away.

Day 63

It was world book day and the kids all dressed up. P was the only one actually from a book but no one at the school argued and the kids all enjoyed themselves.

Day 64

After the Morning school run we stopped off for a quick coffee and some cake before we did the weekly shop. This was the only day that I didn’t manage to get many pictures but I still managed to snap a few.

Day 65

The boys had great fun at the Beano Grand Opening event that we were invited too at Brewers Fayre, Old Brickworks. We got a few snaps off the inside but the boys also wanted to explore the outside play area too. I must say we had a great time and they were all worn out from the excitment of the day.

So there is our week and all the fun we had.

How was your week?

Outdoor park fun

This weekend I have wanted so badly to go on a day out with the kids. This urge was made even greater by the fact that all weekend it has been lovely and sunny. (It was still freezing though)

Unfortunately I have still been feeling really run down and plain awful, add that to my lingering ear infection that is still bugging me and now Baby and E developing a lovely dry cough. So you can see why we didn’t really make it out.
Even with all that I was still desperate to get out of the house. I knew once I went for a walk or just got some fresh air I would feel better. I would blow way the cobwebs and soak up some vitamin D (even if it was only my face on show).

On Saturday I ended up cancelling my plans to go to a frozen fun day because I just could face the crowds of people with the kids on my own, while I felt this horrid. On Sunday I was planning to go for a walk down woods with the kids. That way we could all have some fun and explore. But with Baby and E’s chest I decided against that too.

Instead we went for a walk and then to the park. As soon as I stepped out of the door, I was hit by that bitingly cold breeze and I could feel myself waking up, an the fogginess in my head slowly blowing away.
The kids were happy to be running about and having fun, even though E was coughing all the way.

IMG_6015(here’s P pretending the tree is his “uber hair doo!”)

We soon got to park and found that a piece of the equipment that had been broken for over a year had finally been replaced and fixed.

IMG_6017
It an amazing seesaw that spins round as well as bounces up and down. It great for little kids …

IMG_6031
And big!

IMG_6022

I was itching to have ago but I decided to wait until I was feeling better and because a line of excited kids was forming, they were waiting to take their turn on the new seesaw.

Instead the kids went off and played on other equipment and I went to go push Baby on the swings.

IMG_6066
She really does love the swings and so does E.

IMG_6047
All the kids had great fun and Baby even had a go on the slide with E and T

IMG_6051

IMG_6055

IMG_6062
Unfortunately the cold was creeping in more as the winter sun began to fade, E’s cough was getting worse and Baby was getting fussy and wanted to go home. So I called the kids to tell them we have to leave. The kids all groaned out loud and wanted to stay and play but poor Baby was ever so upset and just wanted to go home to for her nap.

We soon walked home after “one more go on the roundabout.”

I was glad we had managed to get out of the house and I felt much better for getting some fresh air, even if we were all much colder. I know the kids had great fun and would have played for hours and if had been summer I would have let them.

As I told the kids now the weather is turning brighter we will go back again soon or maybe even try a new park or too.

Snow

From the first snow flake that falls I am a massive child. I just totally adore Snow. It makes everything look clean, it makes the nights so much brighter and it makes even the most hideous places look like a magical wonderland because it hide the rubbish and junk under a nice thick blanket of snow.

But most importantly I love to go out into the snow and play with my kids. I love building snowmen, doing snow angels and having snowball fights.

So this year when it we got our first lot of snow the excitement started to build as I came up with loads of ideas for myself and kids to do. Unfortunately that excitement was very short lived when the snow didn’t settle or we didn’t get enough snow. But then the weather forecasted days of snow. I thought to myself “This is going to be the snow I can play out and finally build a snow man!” I was wrong and the snow was turning to slush almost as quick as it was settling.
I was disappointed and scared that we were going to have another year with no snowmen ⛄️.
Then last night it as the snow began to fall. I was filled with the same giddy excitement I am every time it snows. Almost as bad as a child on Christmas morning, jumping and dancing around. Just itching to open they’re present.

2015/01/img_1591.jpg

The fore cast was for nearly 24 hours of snow. I couldn’t believe it but I also tried my best not to get my hopes up too much in case it was wrong or it all turned to slush before I got up.

Again I was so very wrong and this morning I woke you to a magical winter wonderland in my garden that would give the movies a run for there money.

2015/01/img_1592.jpg
It was beautiful. My most favourite thing about when it snows is how fresh and crisp the air smells. It is like all the pollution is sucked out of the air and its is clean. (I know it isn’t but just for a little while everything seems clean)

Sadly this morning the schools were still open. So the kids couldn’t have a snow day 😔. I was a little gutted for them because snow days are them most amazing things ever for kids, but after having a few difficult nights with both E and Baby keeping me up all night. The kids going to school was welcomed as it meant I could have an hour to do nothing while Baby napped an rest were at school.
I made up for it when I went to pick E up from nursery, by taking the sledge.

2015/01/img_1593.jpg
I picked E up on here own and she loved me running through the snow as she screamed “faster” and “again”. Turn when she had enough of being pulled she took a turn at pulling her snowballs she was collecting to take home. It was one of the cutest things I have ever seen.
Once we made it home I decide that before we wet in to get warm I would give Baby her first ride on the sledge. She loved it even if E nearly pushed her out of it at the end! (I caught her before she face planted in snow)

After we had finished sledging I let Baby have her first big of contact with snow and I let her crawl around and have some freedom while E and I built a snowman.

2015/01/img_1594.jpg
E loved every second of it and so did Baby. She only started getting fussy has we put the head on the snowman. The rest of the time did had sat and kick, touches and played with the snow. Soon as we got the head on I call time and said we would all take a break to get warm bad finish the snow man after. E was happy with this and we went in for lunch.

After we all had full bellies and were warm through. It was time for Baby’s nap. So while she snoozed E and I added the finishing touches to our snowman. It was still snowing, and it had already started to fill up the gap where we used the snow for the snowman.
The snow was so thick that the idea of trying to push a pram through it to do school run, was a no go. Thankfully my mum and dad were happy to walk up and collect the kids. They even picked up E and the sled to meet pick them up.

2015/01/img_1595.jpg

This was great because it meant I could chill out and relax for a bit. It also meant there would be enough snow to build snowmen with the boys and A when they got home from school.
The boys were eager to start building as soon as they got home, so we got right on with it. I helped P build his, While T wanted to do his all on his own and E danced about between the two.
I was amazed at how quickly we managed to get the snowmen up. Within a matter of minutes they were built and the kids were do happy with them. T’s took a little bit longer to build but he was adamant he could do his alone.
I must say he did a good job and we actually managed to get them all built and finished in 15 minutes. The bad side to this was because we were all done and inside before A came home. So the idea of going back outside in the cold wasn’t very appealing.

2015/01/img_1596.jpg

Luckily A was understanding and was happy to wait. Which also meant we had chance to let more snow settle. Just before we had our tea A and I went out into the garden and got to work with building a snowman. Again it took hardly any time at all.
By the time we had finished my garden was looking like something out of a Dr Who episode. We had 4 snowmen and if we really wanted to we could make more.

2015/01/img_1597.jpg

It really was a great day and it is one of the reason I love snow. But I know not everybody does and to some a snow day is the there idea of hell.
So where do you sit, do you love snow or hate it?

This picture has been on my Instagram account, twitter and Facebook but is still my favourite picture of the week. I love how cheeky my kids look while I am reading their bedtime story. I also love that E is sticking her tongue out an so not taking it seriously. This is a picture that sums up the craziness in my life 😝.
