Outdoor park fun

This weekend I have wanted so badly to go on a day out with the kids. This urge was made even greater by the fact that all weekend it has been lovely and sunny. (It was still freezing though)

Unfortunately I have still been feeling really run down and plain awful, add that to my lingering ear infection that is still bugging me and now Baby and E developing a lovely dry cough. So you can see why we didn’t really make it out.
Even with all that I was still desperate to get out of the house. I knew once I went for a walk or just got some fresh air I would feel better. I would blow way the cobwebs and soak up some vitamin D (even if it was only my face on show).

On Saturday I ended up cancelling my plans to go to a frozen fun day because I just could face the crowds of people with the kids on my own, while I felt this horrid. On Sunday I was planning to go for a walk down woods with the kids. That way we could all have some fun and explore. But with Baby and E’s chest I decided against that too.

Instead we went for a walk and then to the park. As soon as I stepped out of the door, I was hit by that bitingly cold breeze and I could feel myself waking up, an the fogginess in my head slowly blowing away.
The kids were happy to be running about and having fun, even though E was coughing all the way.

We soon got to park and found that a piece of the equipment that had been broken for over a year had finally been replaced and fixed.

It an amazing seesaw that spins round as well as bounces up and down. It great for little kids …

And big!

I was itching to have ago but I decided to wait until I was feeling better and because a line of excited kids was forming, they were waiting to take their turn on the new seesaw.

Instead the kids went off and played on other equipment and I went to go push Baby on the swings.

She really does love the swings and so does E.

All the kids had great fun and Baby even had a go on the slide with E and T

Unfortunately the cold was creeping in more as the winter sun began to fade, E’s cough was getting worse and Baby was getting fussy and wanted to go home. So I called the kids to tell them we have to leave. The kids all groaned out loud and wanted to stay and play but poor Baby was ever so upset and just wanted to go home to for her nap.

We soon walked home after “one more go on the roundabout.”

I was glad we had managed to get out of the house and I felt much better for getting some fresh air, even if we were all much colder. I know the kids had great fun and would have played for hours and if had been summer I would have let them.

As I told the kids now the weather is turning brighter we will go back again soon or maybe even try a new park or too.

Messy play mornings

Over last few days I have been right well but this morning I decided that even though I felt horrid still I was going to make some fun for my girls.

I decided I was going to leave them in their pj’s and let them have some messy play. That way they only had to get changed once and it saved my washing pile from expanding even further.

So after the older kids left for school I got some shaving foam, a towel and some toys. I say Baby and E on floor and then squirted the foam straight on to my laminate flooring.
I did think about put plastic sheeting down or their messy mat but my floor needed steaming and the foam worked as a extra layer or soap.

The girls loved it. E got out her plates and made some impressive foam pie and cappuccino. She the proceeded to try and feed me it repeatedly. After lots of “hmmmm” and “yummy” she finally gave in when I said I was full to burst.
Baby just kept trying to eat it. Every had full of foam went straight to her mouth. It became a fun game of catch her before she managed to eat it. (She did a few times)
After a good 20 minutes of this game. I decided it was time to clean up and to get E ready for nursery.
Also it was almost time for Mr Tumble on CBeebies. I was so shocked that Baby really got into it today and watched to whole show.

She was transfixed which really made me happy because it will really help her to pick up makaton signing and language.

So this morning was a busy, fun and messy morning. It was great.

What do you do for messy play fun?

This picture has been on my Instagram account, twitter and Facebook but is still my favourite picture of the week. I love how cheeky my kids look while I am reading their bedtime story. I also love that E is sticking her tongue out an so not taking it seriously. This is a picture that sums up the craziness in my life 😝.

Bradford Christmas lights switch on.

Tonight has been a fun, exciting, magical and stressful night.

I took my family to go watch the Christmas lights be switched on in Bradford town centre.

IMG_4296.JPG
I was about worried about going because I knew it would be crowded. Also I knew I would be on my own with kids as my hubby had to work that night. With this in mind I decided to ask a couple of my mummy friends if we all fancied going together. Because then we could keep each other company as well as help each other when it came to toilet runs and watched each other’s kids.
You know “mummy team work”.

My friends K and E were more the happy to go along with my idea and we mixed a group with my 4, K’s 2 boys and E’s little girl. Making the grand total of 3 adults and 7 kids, 4 of which were 3 or under. (Yes we are mad)

We decided to set off into town at 4.15pm so we would be able to get a good place to watch the show. Which started at 5pm. We got a prime spot were we could watch the kids, the show and still chat/relax. (or so we thought)

The weather had been crap all day. It had been foggy/misty but luckily the temperature wasn’t too bad. So we all sat and waited for the show to start.

IMG_4252.JPG
The sky was dull, grey and it started to rain just as the show began to start.
That didn’t deter people though and the area soon began to fill up with crowds of people. It was then that I realised my “prime spot” wasn’t that great. Specially when a loads of teenage and preteen kids started try and push us out off way.

The poor family at side of me kept getting hit by my bag and at one point baby even kicked the mum in the eye as I shifted her weight on my hip. I was mortified.

But it didn’t matter because there were Christmas carols sung by the school choirs. The best part of the whole show was the acrobatic aerial show. It was amazing and the kids liked what they could see of it because the crowds were moving in and blocking their view. Luckily the show moved high up into the air. Shoring high above the crowds meaning the kids got a great view and I managed to get some lovely pictures.

By this point the rain had stopped and we got to watch the show in amazement. Although T kept complaining he was hungry because he was sulking as I wouldn’t buy a flashing sword.

IMG_4269.JPG
The Lord Major of Bradford switched on the lights which was great and the fireworks were great. All the kids loved watching them and the whole show was great. Even with the odd stressful bits. We all made it through and the light looked amazing and we all enjoyed ourselves.

IMG_1377.JPG
Santa was even give out presents as we left. The kids were so excited and of course the presents where a small charge but I couldn’t resist buy them one each.

I am so glad I had my friends to go with though because otherwise the night would of been much more stressful. (as my E needed the toilet almost constantly and all kids didn’t want to go every time)
I am so thankful for great friends because they made my night, specially when we went to go feed the tribe. The giggles, the banter and the memories that were made were great 🙂
